THE SHAKEDOWN

My original plan for my birthday was to do nothing, but then a lot of things came up, and I ended up with several events planned.  I got a little too busy to post up on the blog, but last Friday, I had two events.  I competed in the semi finals of this KIIS FM DJ contest.  which I will get into another time.  Then right after that, we all walked upstairs from Level3 to The Highlands, and I did a set with the Usual Suspects.  Saturday, I had a BBQ at the fam’s house.  Pictures up soon.

OK… here’s whats comin up!!!!  This Friday, I’ll be rockin with the homie Hey Mesa at his party SugarFoot at The Verdugo Bar.  Flyer up soon.  And on Saturday, its the return of The Bridge.  Brought to you by DJ Hapa and Mr. Choc.  We’ll be celebrating my birthday, along with Mr. Choc and DJ Dynamix.  DJ Babu will be in the mix.  Hope to see you there!!!

I was listening to a friend’s mix (no names)… not one of my regular DJ partners, but we have played together a few times.  So I understand that if you do a live mix, there’s gonna be an occasional slip up, maybe something here or there that could’ve been more clean.  But…. if it just full out sucks, do I tell him?  Crappy music and a lot of bad mixes.  I’m not talking a few slips of being off beat, but full out vocals overlapping.  I can live with hearing you push the record once in a while, I can let the crappy music slide if thats what you had to play, but if you know you had a bad night and messed up a lot, why would you post it up online for people to download?  Again… no names cause that is one of the homies.  Hopefully he never asks what I thought of the mix.

Im hopin to go this weekend. My brother is there right now. Man… I cant wait to get to this new stuff!!

Internet Archaeologists Find Ruins Of ‘Friendster’ Civilization

Here’s a mix I did back in 1999.  Its still weird for me to say “back in the 90s”  But I guess that just means I’m old now.  This mix is all slow jams.  It was my first mix CD.  Before that, my mixtapes were on actual TAPES!!!  Cassettes… Maxell, TDK, etc.. you know whatsup!!  I was selling this on CD for about $5 to $10 bucks each.  I think I sold close to a hundred copies outta my backpack at school, at work, after the club (shout out to John Magic for always plugging it at Rewind!!!) .  If you bought one from me and you’re seeing this now,  I owe you a drink or something, cause now I’m giving it out for free.

Also… definitely have to shout out Dave Magno and the rest of S-Sential for the Hands to Heaven remake.. and of course Leslie Baloy (who I haven’t seen in years, so not even sure if its still her last name)  for the acapella verses.  Hope you’re all doing well!!  Wanna help me out with the next one??

This file is a little bit of a re-edit.  I put all the tracks together into one long file, and I tightened up the gaps between the different segments of the mixes.  Thats about it.  Excuse the bad sound quality, cause I didn’t have any real recording gear back then.

People have been asking me about a part 2 for years.  I was hoping to get to it last year, cause it woulda been like a 10yr anniversary sorta thing.  I just never got a chance to do it…  but who knows… maybe one day I’ll get to it.  So… if you lost your CD, its too scratched up to play, just want to load it on your ipod, or never even heard it before… feel free to DOWNLOAD it here:

So 2009 was a pretty rough year.  And at the end of the year, 09 didn’t let me off that easy.  Original plan:  check out Z-Trip at Moon at the Palms.  The homie Tony was gonna drive, but last min, he had car problems.  Then, I also got a call from the homie Abe (DJ EvilLincoln) about a tentative NYE gig at the Crocker Club (he’ll be there every Saturday starting in the next couple weeks).  Skipping over all the details, my cousin cancelled the room, the gig didn’t happen, and we ended up at some random party in Chino Hills (don’t ask how it was).

On the plus side though, the Crocker Club had me come in a do a set, so they can hear me do their format.  Which is pretty much stuff I like to play anyway.  They liked what I did and have me on call.  Most likely to fill in for Abe.  Well… here’s the set for you download.  My final mix for 2009.  Hope you all have a great 2010!!
