A Tribe Called Quest – Scenario (Unreleased Studio Version)

28 Feb

scenario

First of all, you gotta check out the J Period & Q-Tip mixtape: The [Abstract] Best VOL. 1.  Its a free download.  Its got a lot of classic Q-Tip material on it, from classic Tribe, to a guest appearance on Dee-Lite’s “Groove is in the Heart”.  Also on the mixtape, Tip talks about Scenario, as J Period drops a studio take of Busta’s verse.  So after hearing that… of course I had to get online and try to dig it up.  Well I found it!!!  Its completely raw, and sounds like it was recorded on cassette.  The dopest part… Its more than just A Tribe Called Quest featuring Leaders of the New School…. this version also has Pos from De La Soul, and Dres from Black Sheep!!!

DOWNLOAD IT HERE: SCENARIO (UNRELEASED STUDIO VERSION)

The DJ in me wants to keep it to myself, so I can drop some of that “oh shit!! where’d you get that???” type of shit.  But… but the music lover in me felt that this had to be shared with other people who would appreciate it.

Big thanks to unkut.com for posting it up.  That’s where I found the link to the track.  I’ve never been to their page before, but if they keep posting up things like this.. the I’ll definitely be checking back often!  Check out their page for more insight and background to the history of Scenario.

Not interested in the demo version? Well… check out Tribe and LONS on the Arsenio Hall show doing the version that we all know. The best part is Busta rockin his reversible hat that matches his “Where’s Waldo” shirt!!

Also… check out this MSTRKRFT remix.  Actually slowed the tempo of the song down a little bit.  Makes it easer to work into sets.

DJ SHAKEE - LISTEN

I found an old CD I did, and the master version had a few scratches, so I had to load it up to see if I could save it. I think it all came out pretty clean. Anyways…. I did this mix back in late 2002 or early 2003. About a year and a half before I picked up Serato. So when you hear a song jump from one line to another… thats what we call a “record skip”. It fairly common for DJs to experience that. So yea, but shout out to the real DJs that used to have to deal with record skips. This mix is a bunch of soulful stuff… good Hip-Hop, Jazz, R&B, etc. Download it, enjoy it, and I hope it takes you back about 6 or 7 years.

One of my people… DJ Double-S came up with a website, for the The DJ… by The DJ. I’m actually working on the site with him, along with a few others. Its a work in progress, but the content is definitely building. There’s gear reviews, interviews, event coverage. Everything related to the life of a DJ. So wether you a DJ or a fan of DJs… check out the site. I’m a little bias, because all the video content was edited by me, and some were produced, and edited by me. So yes.. go check it out!!!

Petey Pablo – Freek-A-Leek (Hey Mesa Remix)

Hey Mesa

Hey Mesa

For those that don’t know…. back in 1991 I had a DJ crew called Livitup Productions.  My business card still says Livitup Productions, and the dude’s are still my fam til this day.  Hey Mesa (currently one half of the Cocaine Kids with NSquared) is one of my original partners in Livitup.  This guy’s definitely a big influence on the music that I listened to growing up, especially when it comes to Hiphop.  Right now, he’s gotten me back into the whole disco thing (as you can see from the Jive Turkey mix that I posted up).

Hey Mesa took this old (not old school, just old) Petey Pablo track and flipped it.  If you don’t remember the track, it was one of those Lil Jon sounding, dirty south joints that I hated and almost refused to play, that everyone mixed with Ciara’s Goodies.  Anyways… Hey Mesa took it and flipped it with a disco vibe.  Something to bring it back to the dance floor… picked up the tempo on it too.  So here it is, check it out, download it, play it.

Before they were the Peas…

18 Feb

There are people who are Black Eyed Peas fans with Fergie… then there are Peas fans before Fergie. Then there’s those few who know whatsup even before they were the Peas. LA Hiphop heads should know whatsup. These were dudes that you used to just see locally, around the way, at the clubs and whatever Hiphop spot was goin on..

They used to be called A.T.B.A.N. Klann, and they were signed to Ruthless Records. The line up was a little different, but the idea was there. Apparently , things fell apart when Eazy passed. will.i.am (who used to be called Wil 1X) along with apl.d.ap went on to form the Black Eyed Peas. As far as I know, the album was never released, but you can find it online if you dig. This track, “Puddles of H2O” did come out on wax. early 90s Hop Hip at its best. Dirty beats, deep samples, skilled MCs, that whole fast rap style. It was a time when skill mattered. So check the video and check the track! Check out apl before his mowhawk!

Wireless internet on your Mac, using your Blackberry as a modem!!

17 Feb

So I’ll be honest with you.  I really didn’t do a whole lot at work today.  Its a lot of hurry up and wait.  I’m in this room waiting on the camera crews to finish shooting, and give me the footage.  We’re shooting on location, and there’s no internet here.  Anyways.. with that said…. I was bored at work today, so I was sitting on my phone trying to get on the internet…  I found a link online that showed me how to use my phone as a wireless modem.  Obviously it worked!  So here I am online, on my laptop, using my blackberry as a modem.  Its slow as hell… but.. desperate times….

If you have a Mac laptop and a Blackberry… CHECK THIS OUT!!

We’re all in the same gang!!!

Three posts in one night!!! well yea… I’m new to this, and I gotta build up content on this site. For some reason.. this was the first thing that came to my mind. The West Coast Rap All Stars!!! It was the West Coast side of the Stop The Violence Movement. This is some classic shit right here!! I was in 7th or 8th grade, and I knew every word to this joint. The best thing about it is that Arsenio Hall had every MC there for the performance. everyone from Def Jef, to Eazy-E, Ren & Dre… Digital Underground to Tone Loc and Young MC… MC Hammer.. Oaktown 357… King Tee.. Ice-T… and more. anyways… check out the video… and here’s the song.
