Sara Smile

23 Nov

The original version of Sara Smile by Hall & Oates is an amazing song, PERIOD. Now, when it comes to live covers, this Brian McKnight version that I came across on YouTube gives it a good run for its money.

Here’s Hall & Oates doing their own song, but I think I’d rather listen to the recorded album version.

Far East Movement doing Rocketeer on Conan

11 Feb

I first heard of The Far East Movement years ago.  They were a dope ass Hiphop group.  One of the dudes hit me up on myspace.  Then I met their DJ at the time, (Hapa… which is one reason why I’m now at Scratch LA).  Kept in contact for a little bit, but I’m pretty bad about things like that.  Didn’t hear from them for a little while, and then they came out with a whole new sound.  Don’t get it twisted though… Just cause they’re not “that kind of hiphop” anymore, doesn’t mean that I’m not diggin what they’re doing.  Off the recent album, Rocketeer is my favorite track.  Here they are performing it on Conan:

Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon Perform ‘History of HipHop’

13 Oct

Had to give em props on this one. In a way it kinda reminded me of old Roots shows where they go though a medley of classic Hip Hop tracks with Rahzel. Granted, this was a little on the corny side, but it was still pretty entertaining, and I had throw up a hand up with a HipHop salute when they dropped Tribe, and the Roots own track. Schekitout…

Rehab Radio (Oct. 5th 2010)

9 Oct

Here’s my set from Rehab Radio on Ustream earlier this week. I’m on for the first hour of the show, and DJ Robshot comes on right after. He did a dope set with some classis G-Funk. I did 3 short sets for the first hour. Each one themed. The first one is New Edition vs. New Kids on the Block, the second set is Wu-Tang vs The Alkaholiks, and the last one is Joe Bataan vs Sergio Mendes. For some reason the ustream feed started acting up mid set, and everything plays slightly slower then its supposed to sound. So… because of that, I ripped the audio and fixed it up a little bit. You can download that here:

All vinyl set on Chuey TV

8 Sep

I’ve known this dude Chuey since about 2002 or 2003…   He’s kinda done a lot.  You should google him if you’re interested.  His ustream show has had guest DJs, artists, big name, no name, up and comers… check it out sometime.  A few weeks back, he had me come in and rock a set on an all vinyl night.  Dirty records, skipping needles, lack of practice, not hearing songs in a long time… but still.. gotta love the fact that its all wax, and not everyone has the shit that I’m dropping. I was lagging on putting up… but here it is now!!  I come on around 1:05:45.  I’ll have the audio posted up at some point.  but for now.. check it out here.

I’m supposed to be working, but then I realized that I haven’t seen the last two episodes of Entourage. Problem is… we’ve cancelled our HBO. So I’m searching online to find an episode. I found this promo instead.

Tom Jones with The Roots

21 Jul

I was watching Jimmy Fallon again last night. As corny as he is, he can’t really go wrong with The Roots. Last night Tom Jones performed Never with the Roots as his band for the performance.

I mentioned it on facebook and twitter as I was watching, and my homie Scharisse told me bout this track he did with Portishead.

Emmanuelle Chriqui was also on the show last night… Yup, she’s pretty hot.

The Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

4 Mar

Music The Roots
There’s been talk about it on the internet, and last night we finally got to see it. The Roots are on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The greatest Hip Hop band, ever, have turned into a late night talk show house band. Does that mean that we’re not getting a new Roots album anytime soon? I know there’s been talk on the internet about ?uestlove saying that The Roots are retiring from major tours. Sucks for everyone overseas. But when you work as hard and travel as much as these guys have… I think they deserve it. Nothing wrong with a steady gig!

Its cool to see them on TV on a daily basis… and its cool that they’re not just there to play some background music. When Jimmy Fallon decided to “Slow Jam the News”, Black Thought got on the vocals and sang, as part of the bit. Check out the clip below.

Its gonna suck to not be able to see them live as often as before, but at least Jimmy Fallon introduced them properly, by saying “I almost can’t believe how lucky I am…The Roots!” The show opening even gives them a proper introduction by referring to them as “The Legendary Roots Crew”. To top it off, when Justin Timberlake comes out… he just points and says “wow”, while Jimmy Fallon says “Amazing right?” and also mentions that “The Roots can play anything”.

If this doesn’t put the Roots in a mainstream category, I don’t know what will. Cause seriously… at this point… who hasn’t heard of The Roots? Well… I’m sure there might be some people out there that are being introduced to The Roots for the first time, through this show. I figure I’ll share the first time that I was introduced to The Roots. Check out Silent Treatment.
