THE SHAKEDOWN

Last Sunday we got to go check out the Busta Rhymes show at Club Nokia.  (Thanks Leonora for the tickets!!)  This was my first time at Club Nokia, and it a pretty nice venu.  Its like a bigger House of Blues, but less personality and pretty generic looking.  I’ve seen Busta perform a few times, and every time he definitely rocks it.  This time was no exception.. well… except for the last half of the show.  Busta and Spliff were drinking through the whole show, and I’m pretty sure that they were pretty drunk by the end of the show.  He just kept talking and pretty much stopped performing.  People were starting to leave.

But…. don’t get it twisted!!  When the show was good.. it was damn good!!!  They’re always rockin with energy.. and what would a show in LA be without any guest appearances?  Aside from havin Roc Raida as his DJ (whom Busta said is now officially part of FlipMode), Busta also brought out Xzibit, and Raekwon!  They rocked 2 songs each before handing it back to Busta.  He also had Ron Browz come out with him towards the end to do his new joint Arab Money.  The dance is corny, but people love that track.  I swear.. for like a month, I thought Arab Money and Pop Champagne was the same song… oh well.. same producer.

He definitely dropped some classics.  When they mentioned 1992… he had to do his verse in Scenario.  But… unfortunately, other than Scenario… nothing from his days with Leaders of the New School.  Other than the drunk babbling at the end of the show… it was overall it was a good show…

Since Busta didn’t do any LONS stuff… I’ll leave you with this.

First of all, you gotta check out the J Period & Q-Tip mixtape: The [Abstract] Best VOL. 1.  Its a free download.  Its got a lot of classic Q-Tip material on it, from classic Tribe, to a guest appearance on Dee-Lite’s “Groove is in the Heart”.  Also on the mixtape, Tip talks about Scenario, as J Period drops a studio take of Busta’s verse.  So after hearing that… of course I had to get online and try to dig it up.  Well I found it!!!  Its completely raw, and sounds like it was recorded on cassette.  The dopest part… Its more than just A Tribe Called Quest featuring Leaders of the New School…. this version also has Pos from De La Soul, and Dres from Black Sheep!!!

The DJ in me wants to keep it to myself, so I can drop some of that “oh shit!! where’d you get that???” type of shit.  But… but the music lover in me felt that this had to be shared with other people who would appreciate it.
